Singer-songwriter and musician Luka releases her new EP ‘Director in the Dark’ today, featuring previously released singles ‘Something Somewhere’ and ‘Raven’s Nest’. To celebrate the release of her new EP, Luka will be playing at V11, Rotterdam on the 12th of April. ‘Director in the Dark’ is now available on all streaming platforms.
‘Director in the Dark’ contains soundscapes of the inexplicable. They are an attempt to get a grip on the feeling of stumbling through the dark. In the song ‘Fernweh’ Luka says: “Fernweh is a German word that can be translated to ‘a pain to see far-flung places beyond our doorstep’. Because I was not born in the country in which I grew up, an indefinable feeling has continued to toss and turn. This resulted in a soundscape, written from a deep-rooted desire for a place that is still unexplored. A place where words do not yet have a frame, only a reflection in sound language.”
To summarize the EP, Luka explains: “The songs were born from a sense of being uprooted. This may seem like a lonely feeling, but there is also a strength in it; you get to choose where you live and who lives in you. ‘Director in the Dark’ is made for everyone who recognizes themselves in this.”
Born in Cape Town and raised in the Netherlands, the Rotterdam-based singer-songwriter Lisa Lukaszczyk has been making music under the name Luka for quite some time. With her colorful voice and honest songs, she paints images that seem very familiar, yet are intriguing and exciting. Inspired by artists such as Sylvan Esso, Thom Yorke, Bon Iver, and Ultraísta, Luka exhibits a sound with touches of dreamy electro-pop, folk, and soul. Her debut album ‘First Steps of Letting Go’ was released to critical acclaim and received airplay from prominent Dutch radio stations.
‘Director in the Dark’ is available now on Spotify, iTunes, Apple Music, Deezer, and Bandcamp.
