ABROAD is a story of two generations in conflict, each carrying their own pain and expectations. He is a pastor who made sacrifices and created opportunities in a foreign land, yet remains trapped in old wounds. She is a podcaster in search of her own voice, who must confront the past in order to heal. Between them stands the absent mother.
Theatre maker Kimberley Agyarko weaves together conversations in English, Dutch, and Twi with podcast episodes and documentary footage. Enriched by Bnnyhunna’s Ghanaian highlife music, ABROAD takes you on a journey to the vibrant capital city of Accra and unfolds as an intimate family portrait exploring the complex bond between parents and children—and how, sometimes, you must go back in order to move forward.
